President Sirleaf Issues Mob Violence Proclamation

The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has issued a Proclamation declaring Saturday, January 25, 2014 as “Stop Mob Violence Day” to be observed throughout Liberia as a Working Holiday.
 
 
The event will be celebrated under the Theme: Stop Mob Justice; Use the Rule of Law”
 
 
The Proclamations calls on all Government Ministries and Agencies as well as National and International Organizations concerned to join the Ministry of Justice in executing appropriate programs as contained in the Action Plan for the campaign.
 
 
A Foreign Ministry release says the Government, through the Ministry of Justice, has organized a year long campaign scheduled to be launched onJanuary 25, 2014, aimed at reducing the incidence of Mob Justice in Liberia.
 
 
According to the Proclamation, the Liberian National Police in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and its partners have embarked on educating communities about the use of Justice System as a means of effectively resolving conflicts and not to engage in Mob Violence.
 
 
The release further stated that Liberia is committed to protecting its citizens from all acts of Violence, including Mob Violence which have the tendency of ignoring the Rule of Law.
 
 
The Ministry of Justice has indicated that it has observed the unprecedented alarming rates of Mob Violence throughout the country which is threatening the hard earned peace now prevailing in Liberia today.
