President Sirleaf Declares November 1st Thanksgiving Day
The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has by proclamation declared Thursday, November 1, 2012, as Thanksgiving Day, to be observed throughout Liberia, as a National Holiday.
The proclamation is in consonance with an Act of the National Legislature which was enacted in 1883, declaring the First Thursday in the Month of November of each year, as National Thanksgiving Day.
The proclamation calls upon all Liberians and foreign residents, Priest and Imams, Bishops, Pastors, Clergies as well as all religious organizations to gather together in their respective places of worship, to give thanks and praises to the Almighty God that his blessing and mercies may continuously rest upon Liberia, as a nation.
The proclamation maintains that the day was set aside for the Nation and its people to give thanks and adoration to the Lord for this dispensation of grace, mercy and providence for the perseverance of the lives of the Liberian people.
The proclamation indicates that his continuous protection and blessings in times of peace, disaster, and other natural phenomena have sustained the nation politically, socially and economically over the years.
The proclamation further notes that the people of Liberia have always given thanks and praises to the Almighty God for his mercies showered upon Liberia as a nation, in which Liberians have more reasons to glorify the Great Arbiter of Human events in a special way.
