Foreign Ministry Issues Clarification On The Alleged Existence of Liberian Mission In Lebanon

The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to publications alleging the existence of a Liberian Embassy in Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon with a Lebanese Chief of Mission.

 

The Ministry wishes to make it clear that the Liberian Embassy in Beirut was closed more than 30 years ago. Liberia has however maintained an honorary consulate in the Lebanese capital.

 

The Government of Liberia has taken action recently to regularize the status of Liberia’s Honorary Consul in Beirut as part of the review process for the appointment of Liberia’s Honorary Consuls around the world.

 

With respect to the  Liberian women that were taken to Lebanon under an alleged pretext  of providing  jobs for them, measures are being taken by the Government of Liberia in collaboration with the authorities in Lebanon to locate and return the young ladies to Liberia as soon as possible based on the outcomes of the investigation.
