President Sirleaf Congratulates Nigerien President Issoufou on His Re-election

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a congratulatory message to His Excellency Mr. Issoufou Mahamadou on his re-election as President of the Republic of Niger.

 

General elections were held in Niger on February 21, 2016 with a presidential run-off held on March 20, 2016. President Issoufou placed first in the first round, but fell short of an outright majority, necessitating a second round vote in which he faced Hama Amadou. President Issoufou was re-elected with an overwhelming majority.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, in her message to her Nigerien counterpart, the Liberian leader, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended warmest congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of his re-election to the highest office of your country.

 

“We applaud the great people of Niger for a peaceful and commendable conduct of the election which marks a significant milestone for democracy in your country and Africa as a whole,” President Sirleaf emphasized.

 

She further hoped that the bonds of friendship subsisting between the two countries in the spirit of the principles of ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations will continue to be strengthened for the mutual benefits of our respective peoples.

 

President Sirleaf prayed that the Almighty Allah will continue to endow H.E. Mr. Issoufou Mahamadou with abundant wisdom as he leads his people to nobler heights.
