Acting Foreign Minister Levi Demmah Meets with French Ambassador H.E. Gerald Larome
MONROVIA, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH, 2012: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs has reassured the Ambassador of France accredited near Monrovia, His Excellency Gerald Larome that it deeply regrets the outrageous publications that have appeared in the Liberian media and disassociated the Liberian Government from them.
The assertions were made today when Acting Foreign Minister Levi Demmah led a high-powered Foreign Ministry delegation to the Embassy of France to present a Note Verbale to the French diplomat.
Mr. Demmah informed Ambassador Larome that the Government of Liberia has requested the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the president of the Press Union of Liberia and other Government agencies to immediately launch a full investigation into these publications and take the necessary and appropriate remedial action in the circumstances.
Earlier, the French Ambassador informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of a number of publications in the Liberian media besmearing his name.
Ambassador Larome requested, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the Ministry of Information carry out the necessary actions to establish the facts since as an Ambassador he is not capable of taking court action due to diplomatic immunity.
He stressed that the Embassy of France is very respectful of Liberia, its President and the citizens and hopes that the whole truth will be made in connection with the unprofessional, yellow and mercenary journalism displayed by the papers.
