President Weah declared Wednesday, June 5th as “World Environment Day”; To Be Observed as A Working Holiday

President George Manneh Weah has by proclamation declared Wednesday, June 5, 2019 as “World Environment Day” to be observed throughout the Republic as Working Holiday.

 

The United Nations General Assembly, by a Resolution adopted in 1972 and declared the 5th day of June each year to be observed as “World Environment Day” by all Member States.

 

According to Foreign Ministry release, as member of the world environmental community, Liberia will join in the celebration of the “World Environment Day” under the global theme: “Air Pollution” and National theme: “Clean Air Good Health”.

 

President Weah has called upon all people residing in the territorial confines of the Republic to co-operate with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in executing appropriate programs befitting the occasion.

 

The observance of World Environment Day provides the opportunity to focus worldwide attention on the importance of the environment, and people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.

 

The celebration of the day also promotes the active participation of communities on environmental issues including, including the “Green Economy”, and the management of the ecosystem.
