President Sirleaf Congratulates New French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended congratulations to H.E. Mr. Édouard Philippe, on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of France.

 

Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, 46, former mayor of the Normandy port city, Le Havre, comes from Les Républicains, the party that was headed by Nicolas Sarkozy until last year and whose candidate, Francǫis Fillon, was knocked out in the first round of the presidential election.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian leader said, “We are assured that you will bring to this high office valuable experience acquired through your rich political career, including your service as mayor of the port city of Le Havre.”

 

She further extended best wishes for the success of Mr. Philippe’s personal contribution towards reshaping the political landscape of his country, especially during this critical period of France’s democracy.

 

“It is anticipated that, under the new leadership, the unity of the people of France will be further strengthened,” the Liberian leader stated; hoping that the excellent bilateral ties of friendship shared by both countries and peoples will receive a new renaissance during his tenure as Prime Minister, and that Liberia will remain resolute in further developing and deepening the friendship and cooperation between both countries for mutual benefit.

 

President Sirleaf looks forward to working with Prime Minister Philippe and offered sincere wishes of success in his new task.
