The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has sent a Message of Condolence to the Government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt following the death of His Excellency Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former Secretary-General of the United Nations.

In her message to His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, President Sirleaf, on behalf of Liberia, extended her heartfelt condolences to the Egyptian leader and through him, to the Government and people of Egypt, especially the bereaved family for the irreparable loss sustained.

The Liberian Chief Executive said Mr. Boutros-Ghali had been recorded in history as the first African to ascend to the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations, an achievement in which all Africans take pride.

President Sirleaf noted that Mr. Boutros-Ghali’s perspective and participation in global affairs yielded significant dividends to international peace and security, including his role in negotiating the landmark peace deal known as the “Camp David Accord” that led to peace between Egypt and Israel.

The Liberian leader then prayed that the Almighty Allah will grant President El-Sisi and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt strength, courage and fortitude as they go through this period of mourning.
