President Sirleaf Sends Condolence Message to China’s President Xi Jinping Following Landslide
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a Condolence Message to the President of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, following the landslide in Sichuan Province, Southeast China on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
As a result of the landslide, which hit the Xinmo Village, Maoxian County, Tibetan and Qing autonomous Prefecture of Aba, Southwest China, Sichuan Province, there are reports that more than 24 persons are feared dead, while more than 100 persons are missing.
Falling debris of the landslide blocked a two-kilometer section of the river and burying 1,600 meters of road.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Sirleaf, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, and in her own name, extended to President Xi, and through him, to the Government and people of the PRC, especially the bereaved families, heartfelt condolences.
The Liberian leader hoped that the resilience and strength that the people of China have always demonstrated during challenging circumstances will be a hallmark during this difficult period.
