The Liberian Government, led by H.E. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia along with H. E. Foreign Minister Ms. Marjon V. Kamara, participated in a one-day forum on sustaining peace through transition in Liberia held at that the Monrovia City Hall.

President Sirleaf, who is Liberia’s first post-conflict democratically elected President told the multi-stakeholder forum that Liberians are proud of the 13 years of consecutive peace and stability that they have enjoyed.

“Their hopes lie in a peaceful nation that will be able to improve on the opportunities that they will enjoy. We are proud of this peace and want to ensure that it is sustained.”

The Liberian Leader said the meeting was about how Liberia can address those issues that might tend to take away from the progress that have been made so far and the progress that the nation continually wants to keep making in peace building.

For her part, Foreign Minister Marjon V. Kamara, who climaxed the day-long forum, called on every stakeholder to embrace the dialogue and work collectively with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is responsible for maintaining internal peace.

“We have come to the end of a very candid and inspiring exchange of views both at the technical and higher levels of government on the all-important issue of sustaining the peace during and after the withdrawal of UNMIL,” she stated as she thanked everyone for their participation and the “wonderful ideas that you have shared today.”

Among the speakers, was the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, H. E. Mr. Farid Zarif and Ms. Gwendolyn Myers, ED, Messengers of Peace-Liberia.

The Forum was graced by foreign diplomats as well as Liberian government officials.
