President Weah declared 13th October, International Day for Disaster to be observed as a Working Holiday
The President of the Republic of Liberia His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah has sent a proclamation declaring the 13th of October as International Day for Disaster Reduction and is to be observed throughout the Republic as a working Holiday.
The Proclamation is in consonance with the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution No.44/236 and designated the 1990s as International Decade for National Disaster Reduction (IDNDR), decrease the loss of life, prosperity destruction, social and economic disruption caused by natural disaster; and, in 2002, by further resolution, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided to maintain the annual observance as a vehicle to promote a global culture of disaster reduction including prevention, mitigation and preparedness; and, in 2002, by further resolution, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided to maintain the annual observance as a vehicle to promote a global culture of disaster reduction including prevention, mitigation and preparedness; and, in 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 13th of October each year to be observed as International Day for Disaster Reduction;
it is in this light that the Government of Liberia through the National Disaster Management Agency in collaboration with partners and stakeholders will be celebrating this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction under the Global theme: “Substantially Enhance International Cooperation to Developing Countries through Adequate and Sustainable Support” and the National Theme: “Strengthening the Synergy with Partners for adequate support for the Enhancement of Disaster Risk Reduction”:
The President of the Republic of Liberia His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah has therefore call upon all international organizations, the UN, Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions concerned to join the National Disaster Management Agency in implementing appropriate programs befitting the occasion, with strict compliance to the prescribed COVID-19 health protocols.
