Today’s edition of our daily News Summary highlights stories about the resignation of the Central Bank of Liberia Executive Governor Nathaniel R. Patray; VP Howard Taylor making  Liberia’s case at  Russia-Africa summit as well as Swedish government announcing over US$7M for Land Sector, as disclosed by Swedish Ambassador Wetterqvist.

Patray Resigns As President Weah Wishes Him Well

 

President Dr. George Manneh Weah has accepted the resignation of Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Governor, Nathanie R. Patray.; An Executive Mansion release said the former CBL Executive Governor resigned on October 24, 2019 with immediate effect. His resignation followed President Weah’s recent pronouncement that he would restructure the Central Bank of Liberia towards tackling the Country’s economic challenges. President Weah profoundly Mr. Weah profoundly thanked Mr. Patray for his services to the Government and people of Liberia. He said Mr. Patray’s acceptance to serve as a Governor during the challenging times was remarkable. He wished the formal CBL Governor well. The Liberian Leader assured Mr. Patray that he can be called upon to serve his Country in other capacities when the need arises. Meanwhile, the Liberian Leader has named Dr. Musa Dukuly as Officer-In Charge of the Center Bank of Liberia pending the appointment and subsequent confirmation of a new Governor. The Central Bank of Liberia previously called “National Bank of Liberia” was founded on 18 October 1999 by an act of national legislature and began operations in 2000. Liberia’s Case Made At Africa First Summit In Russia

Vice President Jewel Howard-Tayor was amongst 35 African Heads of States and Government at first Russia-Africa Summit, held in Sochi, Russian Federation, from October 23-24, 2019. The Vice President, according to a dispatch from Russia, represented President George Manneh Weah and made a strong case at her first major international stage. In her presentation, the Vice President asserted that Africa remains the last economic frontier zone in the world and is opened for business, industrialization and international cooperation. She noted that African cannot continue to do business as usual, and the need to transform the continent’s natural resources to finished products for the global market. The Vice President applauded the leadership of President Vladimir Putin for his level of international cooperation based on mutual interest.  She also reiterated President Weah’s pronouncement that Liberia is opened for business and will continue to create the economic ambiance to engender trade and investment.  VP Taylor thanked the Russian Government for their support to Liberia I the fight against the Ebola Virus and the provision of training for Liberians in the mining sector, readies the In Profile Daily.

Ambassador of Sweden to Liberia, Ingrid Wetterqvist, says the land situation remains a crucial element in the conflict and post-conflict context of Liberia. President Weah To Launch Wotorson’s Book Thursday

Liberia’s President George Manneh Weah is expected to officially launch the book titled Acceptance’’, written by former Senate Pro-tempore Cletus Wotorson. The Book according to the Press Release is the chronicles of the author’s struggles and celebrations of the rewards that trailed. While calling it the story of the Pandakor boy, the former Grand Kru county Senator and statement revealed that he tried to replicate the examples of much more experienced Liberians authors, including Professor Tambakai Dempster, Bai T. Moore, Dr. Joseph Saye Guanu, Elwood Dunn, and Dr. Amos Sayer, the Inquirer newspaper writes. 

 

Medical-Liberia,, partners Host Global Breast Cancer Awareness                             

 

The Country Director of Medical-Liberia, Caroline Bowah has alarmed over the dangerous effect of breast and other forms of cancers affecting the country, most especially women. Speaking at a one day Global Cancers Awareness held at the Paynessville City Hall, Madam Bowah said, the issue of cancer effect should be addressed holistically, adding that her entity, Medical-Liberia along its partners have embarked on the awareness campaign to sensitize the populace to take tangible measures aimed at curtailing the global epidemic, the Inquirer newspaper relates.

 

China through its embassy Commercial Office near Monrovia has provided training opportunity for 25 Chines Embassy Provides Training …For 25 Liberian in Elevator Management

The people’s Republic of Liberians in the fields of Elevator Management and Technology. The training, which will be held in Changsha, Human Province, is intended to strengthen the capacity building of Liberians and will last for one month. Since January 2019, more than 450 different training opportunities has been provided by the Chinese Embassy commercial office says Li Jiang, Commercial Officer Counselor. Counselor Li explained that new China-Aided projects are expected in next few years, and that these projects will help prove the economic and social development of China-Liberia relations. Mr. Li stated that over 2,300 Liberians have acquired training in vegetable plantation, rattan and bamboo weaving, broadcasting, stadium facilities, automobile repairing, and architecture in Liberia over the last five years. He said China is looking forward to promoting collaboration and by making greater progress for friendship with Liberia in the years to come. For his part, Albert D. Dossen, an Elevator Technician at the Liberian Senate praised the People’s Republic of China for providing another opportunity where Liberians can acquire technical skills in the maintenance of elevator, says the news Newspaper.

 

Agriculture To Be ‘Top Billing In Coming Months’s…Weah tells UN

President George Manneh Weah has told local United Nations officials that his government attaches significant value to the development of the agriculture sector, a major way to a fast solution of the country’s socioeconomic hardships. Delivering speech in observance of the 74th Anniversary of the UN day, at the One United Nations House (Pan African Plaza) in Monrovia, the President did not only speak of the country’s vision to grow, process, consume, and export farm produced and cash crops, in essence; but he also stressed the improvement of other social services vital to the population like health and education. “Liberia is a direct beneficiary of United Nations interventions and assistance, and we will continue to reply on your strong supporter for our effort to achieve sustainable development through our Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development. “My Administration is placing particular emphasis on the agriculture, education is placing part particular emphasis on the agriculture, education, and health sectors in the coming months, and will be seeking even closer collaboration from your relevant agencies in accelerating their growth and development, “he says. President Weah, meanwhile, offered his nation’s felicitations to the world body and its Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, “for reaching this important milestone”, pens the new Newspaper.

Cyber-ED Celebrates UN Day with Liberian Peacekeepers

 On Thursday, October 24, 2019, the Cyber-ED Christian School of Excellence in Monrovia celebrated the 74th United Nations Day in grand style.The ceremony which was held on the school’s campus in Congo Town, was characterized by student performances by in music, recitations and PowerPoint presentations on the historicity of the UN. According to the Daily Observer newspaper, the school also recognized members of the peacekeeping unit of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) for their role in keeping peace in the troubled West African state, Mali.
