President Weah Congratulates Togo, Sierra Leone and South Africa on Independence Anniversaries
President Dr. George Manneh Weah has sent separate messages of congratulations to the Governments and peoples of the Republics of Togo and Sierra Leone, on the occasion marking their 56th and 55th Independence Anniversaries, respectively, on April 27, 2019.
Togo gained its independence from France in 1960; while Sierra Leone gained independence from Britain after more than 150 years of rule in 1961.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, in the message to his Togolese counterpart, His Excellency Mr. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, the Liberian President expressed immense pleasure and extended best wishes to the Government and people of Togo on the festive occasion commemorating their 59th anniversary on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in his own name.
President Weah expressed hope that this momentous occasion will allow both countries to reflect on their historic journey of partnership and to explore new areas of cooperation; as the great people of Togo observed this important occasion, it is his sincere hope that the bonds of friendship and cooperation enjoyed by their two countries will continue to be strengthened in furtherance of the principal of ECOWAS and the African Union.
Whereas, to his Sierra Leonean counterpart, His Excellency Julius Madaa Bio, President Weah convey warmest felicitations to the Government and people of Sierra Leone on the auspicious occasion of the commemoration of their 58th Independence Anniversary on behalf of the Government and People of Liberia and in his own name.
He also hoped that this anniversary will further deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation that so happily exists between the two countries and people. He promised to continue to work with his counterpart to promote peace, security, and progress in the Mano River Union basin, ECOWAS region and Africa.
In a related development, President Weah has also sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa on the occasion marking the 25th Independence Anniversary of the Freedom Day of that country.
In the message to the South African President, His Excellency Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, President Weah extended with immerse pleasure warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of South Africa on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia.
President Weah entertained the hope that as the people of South Africa commemorate this joyous occasion, the spirit and ideals that inspired the people of South Africa to reject the servitude and seek freedom and justice will continue to propel the future of that great country. The Liberia leader recalled that it is these very values that bind the history of Liberia and South Africa.
He hope that the cordial relations subsisting between our two countries will be further strengthened.
He then pray that the Almighty God will endow His Excellency with abundant wisdom and strength as he leads his people to greater prosperity.
