Foreign Minister Marjon Kamara has commissioned Mr. Abu Kamara as Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Kamara previously served the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) as Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Liberia to the United Nations in New York.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the commissioning ceremony, which was witnessed by colleagues, friends and family members of the honoree, took place in the Foreign Ministry’s conference room on Thursday, August 18, 2016.

Before commissioning the honoree, Foreign Minister Marjon V. Kamara welcomed him into the family of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Abu is now joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs although he has been working within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a staff of the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations but also a representative of MICAT,” she noted.

She expressed explicit confidence in Mr. Kamara’s professional ability who she has known for a good number of years; noting that his preferment was a tribute to him and his performance considering his ability to multi-task and to open his mind to learn other things, specifically being the focal person of the Mission’s First Committee at the United Nations – International Peace and Security - despite being assigned by MICAT.

Foreign Minister Kamara further admonished staffers at Home Office to follow the good example of Mr. Kamara as a lesson to them as they pursue a career path to leave themselves open and take full advantage of opportunities that may come their way.

She challenged Mr. Kamara to protect the interest of Liberia at all times as he takes on his new assignment and thanked members of his family and well-wishers for gracing the occasion.

In response after the commission, Mr. Kamara expressed deep gratitude to Foreign Minister Kamara, and through her, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the confidence reposed in his ability to serve Liberia at its Mission in Saudi Arabia and in previous positions under her administration.

”Madam Minister, the year 2010 was a breakthrough moment for me when you made a wise decision to assign me to cover the UN General Assembly First Committee at the expert level. No doubt, this prepared me and I believe my colleagues who were also assigned to different committees, to understand the intricacies of diplomatic negotiations especially in a multilateral environment such as the United Nations and regional organizations," the honoree stressed.

Mr. Kamara lauded the Foreign Minister and her team for all the support accorded him, which has prepared him for the task ahead, adding, “Let me thank the Director General of the Foreign Service Institute, Dr. Augustine Konneh and Ambassador George Wallace II, for the wise counseling during my period of orientation.” He also paid tribute to the Bureau of African - Asian Affairs for their support.

Mr. Kamara assured the Foreign Minister of his readiness to support, protect and promote the interest of Liberia at all times and promised to live by the etiquette of the Foreign Service while pursuing the goals and objectives of the Liberia’s foreign policy.
