Foreign Minister, Ms. Marjon Kamara has received a Special Message from her Kenyan counterpart, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, Ms. Kamara received the Special Message at her Foreign Ministry office when a two-member Kenyan delegation led by the Acting High Commissioner near Abuja, Nigeria, Mr. Silas M. Kiragu, paid her a courtesy call on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was accompanied by the Second Counsellor at the High Commission, Mr. Abdi Mohamed Korane.

Though the details of the Special Message was not revealed, Acting High Commissioner Kiragu, on his first visit to Liberia, brought greetings from Ambassador (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed and reminded her of the very cordial relations subsisting between both countries.

For her part, Foreign Minister Kamara extolled relations between Liberia and Kenya and reminded the Kenyan Acting High Commissioner near Abuja of the very strong support the Kenyan Government provided Liberia, including financial and medical, during the period the country was affected by the Ebola virus disease.

Foreign Minister Kamara reminded Mr. Kiragu that since the tenure of President Sirleaf, Liberia has made concerted efforts to build new impetus in its relations with Kenya. She highlighted the recent State Visit of the Liberian leader to Kenya, who later attended the 10^th Ministerial Conference where the country finally acceded to the World Trade Organization during its first meeting in Africa.

“We are very much open towards strengthening this relationship and making sure that it moves in various directions that our common African Union wants especially intra-African trade in which Kenya has a lot to offer,” she said.

Madam Kamara also expressed pleasure that Kenya Airways has resumed its flights to Monrovia and have given the country further exposure to the world by opening a bit more travel possibilities.

The Liberian Foreign Minister, requested Mr. Kiragu to extend to her Kenyan counterpart, Ambassador (Dr.) Mohamed, her appreciation that the Special Message was hand delivered and whatever it contains would be given favorable consideration.

“We should continue to work together to strengthen and consolidate our relations for the future benefits of our two peoples,” Foreign Minister Kamara stressed, adding that she looks forward to seeing her Kenyan counterpart again so they can work out modalities for a reciprocal visit of President Uhuru Kenyatta to Liberia.
