PRESIDENT SIRLEAF CONGRATULATES GHANA ON 57TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulation to the Government and People of the Republic of Ghana on the occasion commemorating the 57th Independence Celebration of that country.
In her message to Ghanaian President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf stated “It gives me immense pleasure to extend to you, and through you, to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana, Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, and in her own name.
The Liberian President recalled that in the spirit of African solidarity and Pan-Africanism, both Liberia and Ghana were instrumental in mobilizing continental and regional support for the historic formation of the organization of African Union (OAU) now, the African Union and The ECOWAS; as well as the emancipation of the African people from colonial and other form of oppression.
President Sirleaf further recounted that Ghana’s role as major troop-contributing countries in Liberia in the 1990’s under the framework of the ECOWAS peace-keeping operations in Liberia during the country’s civil crises.
The Liberian leader stated that Ghana was also instrumental in forging the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2003 amongst warring parties in the Liberian conflict.
She indicated the outstanding bond of brotherly friendship between the two nations enabled many positive engagements and cooperation over the years for which Liberia is literally grateful.
President Sirleaf further entertained the hope that as Ghana commemorates this joyous occasion, the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation which subsist between Liberia and Ghana will be strengthened.
She then prayed that the Almighty God will endow President John Dramani Mahama with abundant wisdom and strength as he leads his compatriots to greater prosperity.
