The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Olubanke King-Akerele, is in the Ethiopia capital, Addis Ababa, to attend the 14th Ordinary Session of the African Union while President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on Sunday departed the country for Addis Ababa to attend the 12th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State.

Minister King Akerele who departed the country Wednesday is among African Ministers of Foreign Affairs and dignitaries from across the African Continent.

The 14th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council took place Friday, January 30, 2009, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The African Ministers of Foreign Affairs were adopted the reports of the ministerial meeting organised by the African Union Commission during the last six months.

The Opening Statement of the Ordinary Session  of the African Union Executive Session was delivered by the Chairperson of  the Executive Council, Honourable Bernard K. Membe, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Tanzania.

Meanwhile, the 12th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government is scheduled to take place from 1-3rd February 2009. Leaders of several African countries are arriving in Addis Ababa to attend the 12th Ordinary Session of the heads of state and government of the African Union which commences on February 1-3, 2009.

Accordingly, Dozens of leaders of African countries continued to arrive in Addis Ababa to attend the 12th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments of the African Union. President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf departed the country Sunday for Addis Ababa for the AU Summit.

Twenty-two leaders and top government officials have arrived in Addis Ababa until Saturday noon to attend the summit.

Leaders and senior government officials of Libya, Algeria, Angola, Djibouti, Liberia,  Sudan, Namibia, Benin. Switzerland, Sierra Leone, Gabon and South Africa arrived here on Saturday morning.

Among the dignitaries arrived in Addis Ababa include heads of state and government of Member Countries of the AU from Central African Republic, Tanzania, Sahara Araba Republic. Kenya, Uganda, Mauritius, Seychelles, Tunisia, Burundi, Zambia and Gambia.

The delegations are represented by their respective Presidents and Vice Presidents as well as Prime Ministers. The delegations were accorded warm welcome by Ethiopian top government officials and AU Commissioner up on their arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airports.
