Foreign Minister Akerele Attends Mwanawasa’s Funeral

Foreign Minister, Olubanke King-Akerele, is in the Zambian Capital, Lusaka, to participate in funeral ceremony of President Patrick Levy Mwanawasa, who died in Paris, France.

Minster King-Akerele who departed the country Sunday, is among dozens of world leaders attending the ceremony. Minister King-Akerele is expected to return home this week.

Meanwhile, the late Zambian leader has been buried at a sombre ceremony in Lusaka after a 21-gun salute as the Copper-plated coffin containing his body was lowered into the ground.

President Mwanawasa collapsed in Cairo, Egypt two months ago while attending a summit of the African Union, and was subsequently rushed to Paris, France.
