President Sirleaf Congratulates Sweden on National Day
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Sweden as they celebrate their National Day on June 6, 2016.
The Swedes celebrate their National Day on June 6 each year in honor of two historical events. On June 6, 1523, Gustav Vasa was elected king, and on the same date in 1809, the country adopted a new constitution. Not known for displaying their national pride, this day offers a rare chance to see Swedes waving their national colors about.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, in her congratulatory message to His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden, President Sirleaf conveyed through His Majesty to the loving people of Sweden, her warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name.
“For us in Liberia, it is satisfying to note that the bonds of friendship enjoyed by Liberia and Sweden are increasingly expanding in many spheres of cooperation,” the Liberian leader said, adding, “On December 16, 2015, Liberia's accession to the World Trade Organization was finalized, owing to the strong partnership of Sweden including, strengthening our institutional capacity. This significant milestone, among others, clearly demonstrates our shared resolve to enhance our bilateral engagements for mutual benefit to our two countries and peoples.”
President Sirleaf assured His Majesty that Liberia remains unwavering in its commitment to goals that both nations share for the promotion of universal human values, including freedom of speech, human dignity and the advancement of global peace and security.
She then wished for His Majesty, the Government and people of Sweden continued peace and happiness.
