President Sirleaf Congratulates France on its 227th National Day

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of France on the occasion marking their 227th National Day.

 

July 14 commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution with the storming of the Bastille on this day in 1789, an important event in Paris in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on July 14, 1790.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, in her message to His Excellency Mr. François Gérard Hollande, President of the Republic of France, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations and sincere best wishes to President Hollande and through him to the Government and people of France on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name on the occasion commemorating their National Day.

 

She reflected on the principle of freedom which postulates that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and civil liberties.

 

President Sirleaf hoped that as France celebrate this monumental anniversary, the people of France will be endowed with renewed peace and prosperity and that the excellent relations already subsisting between Liberia and France will continue to flourish.

 

The Liberian leader further assured President Hollande of Liberia’s unwavering commitment to upholding the two countries shared values including, the respect for human dignity and equal rights for all of mankind, regardless of race, color, religion, among others.

 

She further wished for the continued good health and wisdom of President Hollande as he leads his people, and for the people of France, renewed happiness and sustained prosperity.
