President Sirleaf Congratulates D.R. Congo on 56th Independence Anniversary
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the occasion commemorating the 56th Independence Anniversary of that country.
June 30 each year is celebrated as a national holiday to commemorate the D.R. Congo’s Independence Day from Belgium in 1960. The DRC was a colony of Belgium from 1908 to 1960.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Sirleaf, in her message to her Congolese counterpart, His Excellency Mr. Joseph Kabila, whilst extending warm felicitations to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, relished the consistency and endurance of the fraternal relations between their two countries as the DRC count fifty-six years of great strives.
She hoped that their two countries will continue efforts to work together in furtherance of the principles of the African Union and the United Nations which aims at promoting peace, security and cooperation among all nations.
The Liberian leader then prayed that the Almighty God will endow President Kabila with abundant wisdom and strength as he leads his compatriots to greater prosperity.
