The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency, Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the newly elected President of the Republic of Cuba, on his election and assumption of office as President of the Republic of Cuba.

In the message to her Cubans counterpart, His Excellency, Mr. Raul Castro, Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf expressed heartfelt congratulations and sincere best wishes, on behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Liberia, and in her own name, noting that the historic ties of mutual friendship, respect and cooperation subsisting between Liberia and Cuba, will be further strengthened, as the two Governments and Peoples work together in promoting world peace, socio Economic Development as well as the fight to eradicate poverty and disease, during the incumbency of Mr. Raul Castro.

President Johnson-Sirleaf also expressed hope that given the tested and proven leadership of President Castro, the people of Cuba will continue to enjoy peace and progress.

In a related development, the Liberian leader also wished the outgoing president, Dr. Fidel Castro, speedy recovery and extends to him profound thanks and appreciation for his government support to and solidarity with the people of Africa in all forms, during his nearly 50 years of outstanding and memorable leadership of Cuba.
