Her Excellency Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). The meeting took place at the offices of the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in New York. In separate opening remarks, the both ministers extended pleasantries and best wishes to each other and promised to work at the bilateral and multilateral levels on issues of mutual interests, particularly on peace and security. During the high level meeting,  there were key discussion surrounding  U.A.E’s support to social and economic development in Liberia; opportunities for investment in mining, agriculture, and energy sectors in Liberia; Liberia’s bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council; and collaboration between Liberia and the U.A.E in multilateral organizations, particularly on international peace and security, and support for international humanitarian law. 

In remark, H.E Beysolow Nyanti thanked the Government of U.A.E for their continuous support to Liberia over the years, and referenced the new Emirates Hospital in Gbarpolu County as a major contribution of the U.A.E. to Liberia. She also lauded the U.A.E. for the support she received through the UN when she headed various UN humanitarian interventions in Yemen. In furtherance, Madame Beysolow Nyanti outlined the agenda of the Government and the intention of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to leave a positive legacy through his agenda of scaling up agricultural production, building infrastructure, promoting trade and advancing social and economic development; and ending corruption and impunity. 

She underscored the need for priority to given in a year, in the areas of Agriculture mechanization and investment, Development of road infrastructure, ICT equipment and building of secure ICT infrastructure for communication at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia and the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations. Madam Beysolow Nyanti emphasized the numerous investment opportunities Liberia has in mining, forestry, agriculture and encouraged the U.A.E to consider Liberia as an investment destination. Also speaking, HE Zayed Al Nahyan expressed interest in fostering collaboration between the Government of U.A.E and the Government of Liberia; and indicated prospects of facilitating investments in key sectors listed through private companies from the U.A.E. He also added investment in the energy sector, particularly solar energy infrastructure, as an area which the U.A.E might consider in Liberia. 

He then,  lauded the Government of  Liberia for the bold step in seeking a seat on the UN Security Council and called for greater collaboration between the two countries at the multilateral level, in advocating for an end to war; the enforcement of international law, especially international humanitarian laws, which  intends  to protect and care for civilians affected by violent conflicts. He also indicated that the U.A.E. supports the proposals for the reform of the UN Security Council and calls on Liberia to join efforts in campaigning for deeper reforms of the international system.
