Liberian Government Supports  Zimbabwean Peace Agreement.

The Government of Liberia welcomes the news of the signing of the Zimbabwe Global Agreement by political leaders of Zimbabwe and congratulates His Excellency Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe and leader of ZANU-PF, and leaders of the MDC, Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai and Mr. Arthur Mutambara for this historic pact.

According to Foreign Ministry release, the Government of Liberia also expresses its gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Thabo Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa and SADC facilitators, the African Union and others who played important roles negotiating the Agreement.

The Government of Liberia says the Agreement is not only a victory for the People of Zimbabwe who have suffered so much as a result of the crisis, but also a victory for African diplomacy. It also demonstrates the strong determination of the people of Zimbabwe to return their country to peace and democracy, which are crucial to building a prosperous and functioning state.

It is our hope that all sides will honor the terms of the Agreement which calls for power-sharing between the three parties and restoration of economic stability and growth.

The Government and people of Liberia stand by the people of Zimbabwe as they begin the awesome task of national healing and reconciliation.
