The Government of the People’s Republic of China, through its Embassy near Monrovia, on Thursday September 13, 2012, donated a consignment of office equipment and furniture valued at $US 16,000 (Sixteen thousand united states dollars)to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Making the presentation on behalf of his government, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy, Yang Jun said the donation was part of his country’s commitment towards helping Liberia in its post war recovery efforts, adding the move will enhance the mutual cooperation and friendly relations between both nations.

The Chinese envoy remarked that the donation is in furtherance of the existing cordial and bilateral ties between Liberia and china. He said the government of china has acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that the gift is a clear manifestation of china’s commitment to help Liberia meet its development objectives.

Mr. Yang also expressed deep appreciation to the Liberian government for its relationship in the framework of the United Nations as well as the cooperation between Liberia and China at various forum, adding that China is always prepared to contribute to capacity building efforts of the ministry’s workforce.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the ministry, Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration Sando Wayne commended the PRC for the assistance and indicated that the gesture worth 16 Thousand United States Dollar is the highest donation ever by the Chinese government to the ministry since the appointment of Honorable Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to Deputy Minister Wayne, the donation was a critical drop in the ministry’s budget which he noted will enhance the ministry performance in meeting its deliverables.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is very grateful for the kind effort made by China to make this huge donation; you have shown that you are a partner of Minister Ngafuan’s Administration".

Minister Wayne further assured the PRC of Liberia’s unwavering support to China and its policies and objectives stressing the two nations share similar values and goals.

The items donated include 30 pieces of office chairs, 20 office desks, two laptop computers and three desktop computers. Others are one executive desk, two network printers, one set of office sofa, two executive chairs, and an office cabinet.
