His Excellency President Dr. George Manneh Weah has extended condolences to the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America, on the unfortunate and tragic deaths of at least Ninety-nine persons due to wildfires in Maui, State of Hawaii, United States of America, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs release, through a message addressed to the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America, a Condolence Message from His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, was forwarded for the unfortunate and tragic deaths of at least Ninety-nine persons due to wildfires in Maui, State of Hawaii, United States of America, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

The ministry said Liberia was deeply saddened to have been informed of the unfortunate and tragic deaths of at least ninety-nine people due to wildfires in Maui, State of Hawaii, United States of America, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

"On behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Liberia, and in my own name, I extend heartfelt condolences to you, and through Your Honorable, to the Government and People of the United States of America, and in particular, to the bereaved families, for the irreparable losses sustained, the release said.

"Our sincere prayers and thoughts are with Your Honorable, the bereaved families, and the resilient People of the United States of America during this difficult period of national distress and mourning," the release said.

The Ministry wishes those who were injured a speedy recovery, as it called upon God’s counsel and guidance for the people of the United States of America.

According to official account of the Interagency Fire Center, the wide-fires that tore through Western Maui last week has earned the tragic distinction of being among the deadliest in the history of modern America, and the death toll is only expected to climb as recovery efforts continue. Hawaii officials  have confirmed 99 fatalities as of late Monday and have warned number will keep raising.
