The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has by Proclamation declared Thursday, November 20, 2025, as "World Children's Day", to be observed throughout the territorial confines of the Republic as Working Holiday.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the World Children's Day is a vital reminder of the rights of children and the responsibility of all to protect and uphold their welfare which encourages everyone, including their parents, teachers, community leaders and children themselves to engage in discussions and actions that support children's rights everywhere and every day.

The Proclamation stated that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, being cognizant of the commitment to international conventions and protocols safeguarding the rights and dignity of every child will on Thursday, November 20, 2025, celebrate this year's World Children's Day, under the Global Theme: "MY DAY, MY RIGHT." and the National Theme: "LIVING WITH DIGNITY-EVERY MOMENT, EVERY RIGHT."

The United Nation General Assembly on November 20, 1959, adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and on November 20, 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Right of the Child which since 1990, marks World Children's Day as the anniversary of the date that the United Nation General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children's rights.

According to the Presidential Proclamation, November 20th celebration of World Children's Day serves as a global occasion to advocate for children's rights, raise awareness about the challenges they face, and celebrate progress made in improving their lives through education, healthcare, and safe environment.

The Proclamation added that World Children's Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children of their rights and improving children's welfare worldwide.

The indoor program commemorating the day, will be held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Ministerial Complex, Congo Town, Montserrado County, commencing at eleven o'clock ante meridian, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
