Raw Water Pipeline Construction More Than 50% Complete 

The construction of the raw Water pipeline for the water and sewer Corporation (LWSC) is more Than 50 percent complete and on schedule to be completed in September 2020.  The US$ 18 million pipeline will draw water from the dam of the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Plant to the White plains water Treatment Plant. According to The New newspaper, The Project will save LWSC approximately US$780,000 a year in electricity costs as the water will be transported using gravity instead of pumping water into the treatment Plant from the St. Paul River.

President Weah, Cabinet To Discuss coronavirus Threat

President George Manneh Weah and his Cabinet will hold a special meeting on today, Monday Mach 9, 2020 to discuss the enhancement of the current measures put in place to protect Liberian from the deadly coronavirus disease that has already infected tens of thousands of people around the world. The president views threat of a possible transmission of the disease to the local population ‘’very seriously’’ and therefore wants to elevate discussion about preventing it to the highest level of the government, pens the Heritage newspaper.

World Bank Provides US$250k Inclusive Education

The World Bank has Provided US$250k inclusive education in Liberia. According to the education specialist at the world Bank Country office in Monrovia, Madam Binta Massaquoi, through the World Bank Trust fund the amount is intended to enable the Ministry of Education to address several activities confronting children with disabilities in the country. Madam Massaquoi made the statement recently at the launch of Inclusive Education Policy and Implementation Plan held at a local hotel in Sinkor, Monrovia, Heritage newspaper asserts.

UN Office, Partners End 2-Day Regional consultation

United Nations Human Right Office in Liberia, civil Society Organizations Platform and other partners have climaxed a nationwide Regional Consultation and Public Outreach on Accountability and Justice for Past Crimes amongst local leaders. The Program, which was held under the theme: ‘’ Effects to Address Past Human Rights Violations at Regional Levels in Liberia’’, brought together citizens and stakeholders from Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Gbarpolu and Montserrado Countries. The two-day consultative Meeting amongst Traditional Leaders looked at several issues, including the implementation of the TRC Recommendations by stakeholders, assert Heritage newspaper.

‘Generational Equality Is A Must’-NCSCL Chairperson asserts’

National leaders and other stakeholders in the fight for gender equality and women’s right have been urged to graduate from mere words without actions to focus on the actualization of ‘Generational Equality’ and women and girl’s empowerment in the country. The Chairperson of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL), Madam Loretta Pope Kai said women and girls’ empowerment must be guaranteed now. “Now is the time and not later”, she said. Madam Pope-Kai is also the Executive Director of Foundation for Community Initiatives, a women rights and empowerment organization. “If we are to make a difference-we need to act now and urgently to empower women. We must not meet at events and verbalize our commitment to women and girl’s empowerment. Rather, let us graduate from verbalization of women and girl’s empowerment to the actualization”, She noted, Daily Observerwrites.

Ellen Launches Initiative For Women Into Leadership

The formal President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, on yesterday launches her “Center for Women and Development” along with its flagship program dubbed the AMUJAE Initiative aimed at shifting the landscape for women in public leadership in Africa; moving from a culture of minimum efforts to one that truly values women leaders. The colorful program which took place on the observance of the International Women Day, scheduled each year for March 8, at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County, brought together past and current leaders including Nigeria’s formal President, Olusegun Obassanjo, the former acting President of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza, former Malawian President Joyce Banda and President George M. Weah along with an array of government officials,Inquirer newspaper asserts.
