New York - 24 September: His Excellency President George M. Weah has paid a personal tribute to former South African President Nelson Mandela at occasion marking the Centenary of his birth at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In his personal tribute, the Liberian leader described Mandela as one of Africa's greatest heroes who fought to free his people from the shackles of Apartheid.

According to a dispatch from the Liberian Mission in New York, President Weah called on world leaders to honour Mandela by protecting peace; stressing that without peace and reconciliation, the world will be unstable.
