President Sirleaf Congratulates Argentina on 201st Independence Anniversary

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a Congratulatory Message to her colleague, the President of the Republic of Argentina, His Excellency Mr. Mauricio Macri, on that country’s 201st Independence Anniversary.

Argentina celebrates its Independence Anniversary on July 9, the day it declared its independence from Spain in 1816.

Once the country formed its own local government on May 25, 1810 the thoughts of becoming independent started to catch fire and set ablaze for freedom around the country. When the British tried to invade Buenos Aires on May 28, 1810, Argentina answered with a swift victory. This new ability to keep out foreign forces gave the country the confidence boost into fighting for independence with Spain and eventually winning.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Sirleaf, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended warmest congratulations and best wishes to President Macri, and through him the Government and people of the Republic of Argentina on the occasion of the 201st Independence Anniversary of that country.

The Liberian president said, “It is my wish that the warm relations subsisting between our two countries and peoples will continue to flourish as we work together for the attainment of global peace, security, economic and social development,” adding, “On this historic occasion, we renew our friendship and cooperation with your great country in anticipation to broadening our partnership in all spheres that promote prosperity in our two countries.”

President Sirleaf prayed that President Macri continues to enjoy good health and happiness, and for the people of Argentina, best wishes for peace, unity and prosperity.
