President Sirleaf Consoles Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent three separate messages of condolence to the Governments and Peoples of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Kenya and the Arab Republic of Egypt following the collapse of a church in Nigeria and two other separate incidences of bomb blasts in Kenya and Egypt respectively, killing dozens of people.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, more than 60 people died as a result of a church building collapse in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Southern Nigeria on Saturday, December 10, 2016 while 40 people died with more than 50 others injured in Naivasha Town, North West of Nairobi, as a result of a tragic traffic accident involving an oil tanker on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

 

A bomb blast also left twenty-five people dead and more than sixty others injured as a result of the explosion on Sunday, December 11, 2016 during worship service at the St. Peter and St. Paul church in Cairo, Egypt.

 

In her message to President Muhammadu Buhari President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on behalf of the Government and People of Liberia extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria especially the bereaved families and loved ones of the victims.

 

And to President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, President Johnson Sirleaf on behalf of Liberia extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Kenya especially the families of those who lost their lives. Madam Sirleaf at the same time, wished for those injured a speedy recovery.

 

According to the Foreign Ministry release, President Johnson Sirleaf extended deepest condolences to Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Government and People of Egypt and assured them of Liberia’s commitment to a strong partnership with Egypt in the Global and regional fight against terrorism.

 

The Liberian President further condemned in the strongest terms this barbaric attack on the peaceful people of Egypt and prayed that the Almighty Allah will grant President Fattah El-Sisi and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt strength, courage and fortitude as they go through this period of national mourning.
