President Sirleaf to Lead Ambassador Rudolf von Ballmoos’ Book of Condolence Signing

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia has announced that the Book of Condolence for the late Ambassador Rudolf P. von Ballmoos, will be opened on Tuesday January 5, 2016 in the Foyer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Capitol Hill. 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, H. E. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia, will lead an array of Liberian Government officials at the signing of the book of condolence which commences at the 11 0’clock ante meridian.

The President after signing the Book of Condolence will be followed by Members of her Cabinet.

On the same day, Honorable Joseph N. Boakai, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Members of the Liberian Senate, the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives will sign.

After signing the Book of Condolence by His Honor, the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia, former Heads of State and former Vice Heads of State of the nation, the Doyen and Members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps will then sign the Book of Condolence.

In the afternoon of that day, January 5, 2016, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Heads of International Organizations, former officials of government and religious leaders will end the day’s signing of the Book.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016, will be the last day for the official signing of the Book of condolence. On the same day, beginning at 11 0’clock ante meridian, heads of public corporations, autonomous agencies, bureaus and commissions will be allowed to come in and sign, to be followed there after by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other government officials, political parties’ leaders, civil society organizations’ heads, business houses and the general public, thereby ending the official signing ceremony.

H.E. Mr. Rudolf P. von Ballmoos, Liberia’s Ambassador accredited to the Court of Saint James, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland died Thursday, December 17, at the Epsom General Hospital in Surrey, London, U.K. He was 56.

Prior to his demise, Ambassador von Ballmoos, served his Country and People as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, The Vatican and the Sovereign Military Hospitalier Order of Malta. He also served as Liberia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana.

He was later transferred from Ghana to the United Kingdom as Liberia’s Ambassador to that Country, where he remained up to his demise.

Ambassador von Ballmoos was one of Liberia’s outstanding diplomats, who served his country and people with dedication, commitment and loyalty.

The Liberian Embassy in the UK had previously opened a Book of Condolence at the Chancery from 11:00 to 15:00 on Monday and Tuesday, December 21 and 22, 2015.
