President Sirleaf Congratulates Sweden on Her Independence
The President of the Republic of Liberia H.E. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a congratulatory message to the Government and People of The Kingdom of Sweden on the historic occasion commemorating the 32nd National Day of that country on June 6.
In her message to His Majesty The King Carl XVI Gustaf President Sirleaf remarked: “On behalf of the Government and People of Liberia and in my own behalf, it gives me immense pleasure to extend heartiest congratulations to you and the Kingdom and People of Sweden as you celebrate your National Day”.
The President disclosed that it is satisfying to note that relations between Liberia and Sweden have transcended bounds of ordinary friendship demonstrated by our bilateral engagements which continue to expand. The visit to Liberia in February 2015 by the Swedish Minister of International Development and Cooperation, Ms Isabella Lövin, at the height of the Ebola Virus Disease in Liberia, signifies the significance and increasing strength of our relations. “We acknowledge with much gratitude your country’s support to the fight against the Ebola Virus”, President Johnson Sirleaf said.
According to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, without such support from Sweden and that of other members of the International community, coupled with the resilience demonstrated by the People of Liberia, the declaration by the World Health Organization on May 9 announcing the end to the Ebola Virus outbreak in Liberia would not have been achieved.
President Sirleaf said that she is assured that Liberia and Sweden will continue to work jointly on sustaining and enriching both countries very excellent ties whilst promoting the attainment of global peace and prosperity.
The Liberian Leader also wished for the continued good health, and for the people of Sweden renewed prosperity and happiness.
