The President of the Republic of Liberia H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a congratulatory message to the Government and People of the Kingdom of Norway on the historic occasion commemorating the 201st National Day of the country.
In her message to His Majesty King Harald V. , President Sirleaf remarked: “we are reminded of your compatriot’s courageousness in forging a new path towards self determination and freedom with the signing of the Norwegian constitution in Eidsvoll, Two Hundred and One years ago, therefore, on behalf of the Government ad People of the Republic of Liberia, and in my own name, it is my delight to extend heartfelt felicitations to you, your Government and the People of the Kingdom of Norway”, It is pleasing to note that the Liberian-Norwegian partnership is grounded in our shared history dating back to 1863 when our two countries signed the Treaty of Friendship and Navigation, thus setting the basis for us to engage in mutually rewarding ventures favorable to our two countries and peoples.
President Sirleaf emphasized the strong bond of friendship between our nations was not only heightened by our consummation of a Forest Agreement in 2014 aimed at protecting Liberia’s forest, but also by the significant contribution by your country to the fight against Ebola, including the visit of your Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Borge Brende to Liberia in October 2014 at a time when our country was still plagued by the Ebola Virus.
The Liberian Leader then expressed commitment to upholding human dignity, freedom of the press, and the protection of rain forest and wild-life will continue to unite us as our relations develop from strength to strength.
President Sirleaf also wished for the Norwegian Leader’s personal well-being, good health and happiness, and for the sustained prosperity of the people of Norway as the commemorate this very significant day.
