President Sirleaf Congratulates Germany

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a congratulatory message to the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Germany on the historic occasion commemorating the 23rd Anniversary of Germany Unity Day.

President Sirleaf recalled the longstanding and cordial relationship between Liberia and Germany which dates far back to 1855 when Germany recognized Liberia as a sovereign and independent state.

In her message to the German President, His Excellency Joachim Gauck, President Sirleaf remarked: “I am delighted to extend to you, the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Germany warmest congratulations. It is indeed gratifying to note the friendship and sturdy cooperation our two countries enjoy dates far back to 1855 when Germany through its hanseatic cities of Bremen, Hamburg and Lubeck recognized Liberia as a sovereign and independent state”.

President Sirleaf emphasized that as Liberia and Germany seek to expand their bilateral ties in various spheres, the People of Liberia remain highly appreciative of Germany’s continuous valuable support to Liberia’s developmental agenda.

The Liberian Leader then expressed hope that as Liberians join their German counterparts in celebrating this momentous occasion, the relations between the two countries will further deepen as both Governments work together for the mutual benefit of the two nations and for the achievement of global peace and prosperity.

President Sirleaf also wished for the German Leader’s personal well-being and for the industrious People of Germany continued peace and prosperity.
