President George Manneh Weah has sent a Congratulatory Message to the European Council on the occasion commemorating the 69th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration (the Europe Day) On May 9^th.

Europe Day is the name of two annual observance days, the 5^th of  May by the Council of Europe and the 9^th of May by the European Union, which recognize the peace and prosperity within Europe that both have achieved since their formation.

The first recognition of Europe Day was by the Council of Europe, introduced in 1964. The European Union later started to celebrate its own European Day in commemoration of the 1950 Schuman Declaration, referred to as "Schuman Day”.  Both Days are celebrated by displaying the Flag of Europe.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, in the message to the President of the European Council, His Excellency Donald Tusk, President George Manneh Weah, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, extended warm felicitations and best wishes to the European Council and the Governments and Peoples of the European Union as they observe this historic milestone.  

“ As we celebrate with you, we are encouraged to mirror on the creed of peace that motivated the then French Foreign Minister Mr. Robert Schuman to submit the noble vision that would make war between France and Germany materially impossible” the release noted.

The Liberian leader expressed delight over the Liberia-EU relations which he noted have fully-fledged to an appreciable level.

President Weah also observed the direct involvement in programs of shared interest to both the European Union and Liberia as they desire to promote the dividend of peaceful cohabitation amongst peoples of all race.  

The Liberian President then wished for President Tusk and member countries of the European Union, continued good health, peace and prosperity.
