President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of condolence to the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following news of the death of General Ishaya  Bakut, Retired General of  Nigeria Armed Forces, and former Field Commander of ECOWAS  Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) of Liberia.

In her message to her Nigerian counterpart, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, President Johnson Sirleaf extended her heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian leader, and through him, to the Government and People of Nigeria, especially the bereaved family for the irreparable loss sustained.

President Johnson Sirleaf noted that Retired General Bakut is remembered for his enormous contributions as Field Commander of ECOMOG, to the attainment of peace and stability during one of the darkest chapters of Liberia’s history, his courage and strong sense of African intervention despite the obvious uncertainties of our national condition at that time, she said the people of Liberia remain grateful for his personal positive role played.
