President Sirleaf Consoles Ghana on the Untimely Death of Prof. Awoonor
The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of condolence to His Excellency, Mr. John Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana on the saddening news of the untimely death of Professor Kofi Awoonor, former Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Ghana, who was caught up in the brutal attack on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya on September 21, 2013.
A Foreign Ministry release quotes the Liberian President in her message to her Ghanaian counterpart as saying that through him and to the People of the Republic of Ghana and the bereaved family that she expressed deepest condolences on behalf of the Government and People of Liberia and in her own name for the irreparable loss sustained by the Ghanaian Government and People.
“Professor Awoonor was a renowned Poet and Academician which made him a National Treasure of Ghana and his loss to humanity irreparable”, the Liberian Leader noted in her message.
President Sirleaf also prayed that God in His infinite glory will console President John Mahama and the People of Ghana, especially the bereaved family during this difficult time of national mourning.
