Minister Ngafuan Expresses Optimism Over Liberia- Sierra Leone Relations
The Liberian Foreign Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has expressed confidence that the excellent ties of friendship and cooperation between Liberia and Sierra Leone will be strengthened to the benefits of the two Mano River Union (MRU) Countries.
Mr. Ngafuan made the assertion on Wednesday, May 27, 2014 when the Sierra Leonean Ambassador- designate to Liberia, Mr. Brima Acha Kamara paid him a courtesy call and presented copies of his letters of credence to the minister pending formal presentation to the President of Liberia. The colorful ceremony took place in the Conference Room of the Ministry.
While welcoming the Ambassador at the Ministry, Foreign Minister Ngafuan recalled the traditional ties and friendly relationship between both countries and called on their two Foreign Ministries to work together with the aim to share knowledge in rewarding bilateral areas to the mutual benefits of the two Governments and Peoples.
The Liberian Foreign Minister behalf of the President of Liberia Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf congratulated the newly Ambassador designate to Liberia for his preferment and pledged Liberia’s commitment and willingness to deepen the existing cooperation with that sisterly Republic.
For his part, the Sierra Leone Ambassador- designate to Liberia, Mr. Brima Acha Kamara thanked Minister Ngafuan and the Liberians Government for the warm reception hailing the friendly ties between Liberia and his country. He particularly expressed satisfaction over Liberia- Sierra Leone relations.
The new Sierra Leonean Envoy who served previously in the security arena of his country said he has come with wide ranging experiences to Liberia to help strengthen the ties between both countries aimed at promoting peace and security in the two countries and the MRU Basin, adding we have come to diplomatic service using our expertise to promote peace and security in the region and to further strength the two countries relationship.
Both Minister Ngafuan and the Sierra Leone’s Envoy pledged their two countries willingness to strengthen and solidify the existing ties of friendship and cooperation at the country level and the level of countries and MRU.
Commenting on the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, Foreign Minister Ngafuan who expressed regrets over the situation which has spread over to neighboring Sierra Leone, calling on health workers in Liberia to not relax their vigilance in fighting the deadly disease.
Reflecting on the country’s bereavement following the demise of one of its Ambassadors, the Liberian Foreign Minister recalled the sudden death of Liberia’s Ambassador accredited to Sierra Leone, H.E. Thomas Brima who recently died following a brief illness. Ambassador Brima served prior to his death as the Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps in that country, the Minister deeply recalled.
