Government Announces the Death of Liberia’s former Coach, Dominic Vava George
The Government of the Republic of Liberia announces with profound regrets the death of Mr. Dominic Vava George, Former coach of the Liberia National Soccer team, the Lone Star.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, this sad event occurred on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 08:00 p.m., at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia after a protracted period of illness.
The late Dominic Vava George, served as coach of the Senior National Soccer team of Liberia that qualified and participated in the 2002 African Cup of Nations when His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah served as Captain and Technical Director of the team.
Prior to that, the late coach George played for the Far East End Lions in the mid 60’s.
He also played for the Grand Cape Mount County team that won the 1969 National County Meet. The fallen coach played for the Great Bame, the Invincible Eleven, I.E. and the National Team of Liberia, the Lone Star.
The late Dominic Vava George was born in Cestos, Rivercess County on April 19, 1947. At a tender age he was taken to Sierra Leone where he attended the St. Anthony Primary School and the St. Edward Secondary School.
During the commemoration of Liberia’s 171st Flag Day celebration at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on August 24, 2018, the deceased Dominic Vava George was honored by President George Manneh Weah for his service to the Republic of Liberia.
Meanwhile, the funeral arrangements for the fallen Lone Star coach will be announced later.
