FORMER PRESIDENTS VISIT LIBERIA

Two former West African leaders from the Republic of Ghana and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, recently paid an official visit to Liberia with a special peace message ahead of the General and presidential elections in October.

Former Nigerian President, Retired General HE General Abdusalami A. Abubakar
 and Former President HE John A. Kufuor of the Republic of Ghana arrived in the country on Thursday, September 22, 2011 to hold talks with the Liberia Government as the country conducts its General and Presidential Elections in October.

Upon arrival in the country, the  two Former African Leaders were received by the Acting Minister of Foreign affairs, Hon. J. Levi Demmah, at the Robert International Airport.

While in the country, the  former Presidents held talks with H. E. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Officials of the Elections Commission and other relevant Government Authorities. The two former African Leaders called on stake- holders including Heads of Political Parties and Government agencies to observe a peaceful election in Liberia, come October 2011.

Receiving the two officials, Acting Foreign Minister, Hon. J. Levi Demmah welcomed the  former Leaders and expressed government's commitments and desire to hold peaceful elections in Liberia, so as to sustain  peace and stability in the country which  ECOWAS and the entire international community helped to restore.
