Foreign Ministry Workers Association’s New Leadership Takes Office; Advances Several Recommendations to Management

The President of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Workers Association (MOFAWA), Mr. Lahai Kiazolu has assured his fellow employees of the Ministry that he and his new team will work closely with administration aimed at promoting the interest and wellbeing of the workforce.

 

Mr. Kiazulu made the statement Friday, October 5, when the new corps of officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Workers Association, (MOFAWA) was inducted into office.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the ceremony took place at the C. Cecil Dennis Jr. Auditorium, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Others Officials inducted into office were Mrs. Rosetta Sallu-Doryen, Vice President; Mr. Michael G. Monponwon, Secretary General and Madam Nattaline Caranda, Treasurer of the Association.   

 

In his inaugural speech at the colorful ceremony,Mr. Lahai Kiazolu outlined keys priorities of his leadership including recommendations to central administration aimed at improving the welfare and livelihood of employees.

 

Mr. Lahai Kiazolu highlighted a number of recommendations which he said if addressed by central administration would significantly motivate and improve the status of employees of MOFA in order to be productive, and efficient on the job.  

 

Mr. Kiazolu further stressed the need for improvement in the retirement benefits of employees of the ministry who serve diligently and reach retirement age.

 

He further pleaded with authorities of the Ministry under the wised and dynamic stewardship of Minister Milton Gbezohngar Findley to ensure that General Allowances are appropriately harmonized based on hard-work and merit, if the ministry is to realize an enhanced productivity and efficiency.     

 

The MOFAWA’s President further stressed the need to reopen the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute, FSI, which according to him, would provide employees and other Liberians the opportunity to acquire basic diplomatic skills so as to effectively serve their motherland.

 

Mr. Kiazolu, who is serving his second term in office as President of the Workers Association, also challenged his fellow employees to take their job seriously as they perform their tasks with efficacy aimed at fostering the Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda.

 

Administering the oath of office, Acting Foreign Minister Hon. B. Elias Shoniyin challenged the new leadership of the workers Association to put first the interest of those who elected them in positions of trust, adding this is the hallmark of good leadership.

 

Acting Minister Shoniyin urged the leadership of MOFAWA to explore opportunities, not only for themselves, but for the employees in general to benefit including building their capacities. Acting Minister Shoniyin particularly admonished Mr. Kiazolu and his team to be proactive, selfless and avoid self-aggrandizement.

 

For her part, the Director of Employment Services at the Civil Service Agency, Mrs. Reta Vicent congratulated the new corps of officers of MOFAWA and challenged them to work in the supreme interest of their fellow workers and the administration as well in line with the CSA Standing Order adding “you should not only be advocating but also bargaining with authorities concerning issues bordering on good working conditions plus salaries and wages”
