Weah Withdraws Gibson As MOJ Nominee; Will Other ‘Questionable Characters’ Follow Suit?

President George Manneh Weah has with immediate effect withdrawn the nomination of Cllr. Charles Gibson, as Justice Minister-designate. Quoting an Executive Mansion release, the Daily Observer reads that the decision was made on Feb 7, in an official communication to the Senate Pro-Temp, Hon. Albert Chie, and Justice Minister-designate Cllr. Charles Gibson. The daily recalled that President Weah’s nomination of Cllr. Charles Gibson to serve as Justice Minister ignited a virtual firestorm against his confirmation since the revelation of his unwholesome and unethical behavior which led to the suspension of his license by the Supreme Court.  In a related development, President George Manneh Weah has made additional appointments in Government pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate where applicable. According to the INSIGHT newspaper under the caption “President Weah Makes Additional Appointments in Government’, President Weah’s norminations affect theLiberia Immigration and Naturalization Service (LINS),  Land Commission, Libtelco, National Fisheries, National Document and Archives and Robert International Airport. Others are Liberia National Police, John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Bureau of Concession, Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company, National Transit Authority and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.  Still other are the Ministry Post & Telecommunication, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

CU Signs Agreement With BCTC

Cuttington University (CU) and Bong County Technical College (BCTC) have signed a three - year institutional linkage agreement to strengthen academic excellence and broaden experiences between students of the two institutions. The signing ceremony took place recently on the main campus of the BCTC in Gbarnga, Bong County. The New Dawn newspaper says under the agreement, CU will consider students from the Departments of Agriculture and Health Sciences at the BCTC upon their nomination to have access to CU’s Colleges of Agriculture and Allied Health Sciences. Students to benefit the exchange program at Cuttington University under the agreement must have a minimum grade point average of 2.00 and sufficient academic preparation in the pre-nursing courses and skill required. BCTC acting president Dr. Charles Mulbah says their decision to partner with the Cuttington University was a result of a vigorous assessment conducted since he took over the college.

'Liberia Takes Over Chairmanship Of African Group Of Ambassadors At United Nations'

Liberia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Lewis Garseedah Brown, II, on Tuesday took over the chairmanship of the African Group of Ambassadors to the United Nations for the month of February. Ambassador Brown took over the chairmanship from the Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea, Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba who served for the month of January. As Chairman, Ambassador Brown will coordinate the affairs of the African group and serve as its official spokesperson at all United Nations events including meetings and high level conferences. During his tenure as Chairman, the African group will participate in ongoing intergovernmental negotiations on UN Security Council reforms and convene a retreat of Permanent Representatives of African Missions to the United Nations from February 23-24, according to the New Dawn newspaper.

Liberia Observes World Radio Day On Friday

The INSIGHT newspaper says this year’s World Radion Day is being celebrated in Liberia under the auspices of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) in collaboration with one of its main auxiliaries, the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL). To commemorate the day, the PUL will hold an indoor event at its Headquarters in Monrovia to specifically honor the role of radio in sports development in the country. The daily reads that there will also be a panel discussion which will present the importance of Radio and Sports to a  select audience made of sportsmen, women and journalists.
