The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah has by Proclamation declared Thursday, November 25, Through Friday, December 10, 2021, the Sixteen (16) Days Of Activism Against Gender Based Violence and is to be observed throughout the Republic as Working Holidays.        

The Proclamation Calls on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, government agencies, Civil Society organizations, international partners and NGOS concerned to organize and execute appropriate programs befitting the occasion in keeping with prescribed CIVID-19 heath protocols.   

A Foreign Ministry Release Says the 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is a Global Champaign dedicated to end gender-based violence and highlight other significant dates such as: November 25, International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women; November 29, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day; December 1, World AIDS Day; December 3, International Day Of Disabled Persons; December 6, Anniversary Of The Montreal Massacre And December 10, International Human Rights Day.

According to the Proclamation, these years’ events to end all forms of DGV will be celebrated under the global Theme: “End Violence Against Women Now” And thenational Theme: “Enough Is Enough!  Let’s Act Now To End Violence Against Women And Girls Children And Other Marginalized Groups”

The release further noted that this year’s celebration will commence with a major press conference at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection where an overview of the 16 Days of Activism will be presented to the public.  On November 25, 2021, at 9: o’clock a.m. the official launch of The 16days will commence with a march through the Booker Washington Institute, (BWI) to Kakata City Hall and will be climaxed with an indoor program.   

The Proclamation also noted that gender inequality is prevalent and manifested by high levels of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy among youths, women and girls as well as high incidences of sexual and gender-based violence which, according to statistics reveals that children are the most vulnerable in n terms of practices.   

During the first women’s global leadership conference sponsored by the Center For Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) In 1991, the 25^th Day Of November was set aside to be observed each year as the International Day for the Elimination Of Violence Against Women, and December 10, International Human Rights Day, in recognition of violence against women as a human right violation and called on governments to work towards its elimination, the Proclamation stated further.
