President Sirleaf Congratulates Denmark on Its Constitution Day

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended heartfelt greetings to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and the people of Denmark on the special occasion commemorating the anniversary of its Constitution Day.

 

Constitution Day, observed annually on June 5, commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Danish Constitution of 1849, which established Denmark as a constitutional monarchy, and honors the constitution of 1953, which was adopted on the same date.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian President, in her message to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II stated: “As we join you in celebrating this auspicious occasion, we acknowledge with satisfaction, the rewarding relations our two nations and peoples continue to enjoy, particularly the positive impacts resulting from our partnership to attain the Millennium Development Goals, which advocated gender equality and women empowerment by the year 2015.”

 

President Sirleaf further told the Danish Queen that as both nations strive to fully implement the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, Liberia looks forward to deepen collaboration in many spheres, including human rights, peace and security, and other aspects of development.

 

“It is my ardent wish that together we will explore new areas of cooperation, mainly in the private sector,” she added.

President Sirleaf, then wished for Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II happiness; and for the Government and people of Denmark, peace, joy, and prosperity.
