President Sirleaf Hails the Russian Federation on 24th Russia Day Celebration
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Russian Federation on the historic and festive occasion commemorating the 24th Russia Day anniversary on June 12. Since the day falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on Monday, June 13, 2016.
Russia Day is a national holiday of the Russian Federation which is celebrated annually on June 12 since 1992 to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) on June 12, 1990. The passage of this Declaration by the First Congress of People’s Deputies marked the beginning of constitutional reform in the Russian Soviet state.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, in her message to His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, President Sirleaf extended heartfelt and sincere best wishes to the Government and people of the Russian Federation on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia and in her own name.
The Liberian leader emphasized that Liberia is pleased to indicate that both countries continue to exploit the longstanding bonds of friendship which gained impetus in 1956 with the consummation of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries.
President Sirleaf furthered that thankfully, Liberia and Russia continue to share many perspectives on issues of global concern including, the promotion of world peace, prosperity and security. “It is our ardent wish that we will continue to forge and maintain these very excellent relations subsisting between our two countries and peoples,” she added.
She indicated that Liberia welcomes, with satisfaction, plans by Russia to strengthen the friendship and cooperation with African countries as well as to continue its participation in various support programs and projects for Africa, implemented under the auspices of the United Nations, G20, BRICS and other international bodies.
The Liberian leader then wished His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Putin continued good health and happiness, and for the Government and people of the Russian Federation, sustained peace and prosperity.
