Liberia, China Exchange US$36M Note To Finance China-Sponsored Projects

The Heritage newspaper reveals that the Government of the People’s Republic of China has allocated the amount of US$36 million to the Liberian Government to cover expenses for four Chinese sponsored projects in Liberia. The gratuitous assistance was made during Tuesday’s note of exchange ceremony between both countries held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China accredited to Liberia, His Excellency Zhao Jianjua represented their respective countries at the ceremony. The paper quoting a Foreign Ministry release says Chinese Ambassador Zhao disclosed during the ceremony that the amount is an initial amount against US$100 million intended to finance the refurbishment of the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) in Paynesville, the construction of annexes for the National Legislature/Capitol Building in Monrovia and the Ministerial Complex to be constructed in Congo Town outside Monrovia.

Ellen Receives Letters Of Credence From New Ambassador Of France To Liberia

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says Liberian remains committed to share values, amongst which are the promotion of international peace and security, the rule of law and god governance and the building of a vibrant and transparent economy which will discourage all forms of corruption in the global community.

“We believe that these principles would create a healthy environment in protecting the rights and freedom of mankind,” she said.  According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader made the assertion when she received the new Ambassador of France to Liberia, His Excellency Joel Godeau, who presented his Letters of Credence to the President at a ceremony held at her Foreign Ministry office, the Heritage writes.

Journalist Seeks Ellen’s Help – To Treat Dislocated Spine

The NEWS newspaper has reported that the health condition of Broadcast Journalist, James Gant is stable but gradually deteriorating and could worsen in the coming months if urgent financial assistance is not available to enable him seek medical treatment in Accra, Ghana or elsewhere. Gant, a staff of the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), was involved in a motor accident when a moving vehicle ran into him and others around Cow Factory, Somalia Drive in June 2012. He said the incident occurred at 8:00pm soon after he and others were crossing the road when this moving vehicle ran into them and escaped the scene. Gant indicated that due to the accident, he had been advised by Doctors not to perform any hard work or lift heavy object that could further damage his chances of recovering from the spine dislocation.
