U.S Government To Overhaul Liberia’s Vocational Program

The U.S. Government says it will continue to collaborate with the Government of Liberia to achieve the objectives of the Technical Vocational Education (TVET) Program. U.S. Agency for International Development Food and Enterprise Development (USAID FED) Deputy Chief of Party, Boima Bafaie, made the commitment at the inauguration of the vegetable cold storage and modern soil science laboratory with both estimated at US$245,000 in Nimba County, according to the WOMEN VOICES newspaper.

“Let’s Submit To God” – Thanksgiving Day Speakers

Many Liberians gathered at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia on Thursday to observe the National Thanksgiving Day, memorializing those who died and survived during the deadly Ebola crisis. Speaking during the service, Rev. Momo Francis Bishop of the Great Commission World Outreach noted that Liberia belongs to God and that is why he has not and will not abandon them during difficult periods, In Profile Daily writes.

TVET Is Of National Priority To Liberia –Eugene Nagbe Tells UNESCO Forum

Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe says the provision of technical and vocational education to Liberian youth is a major national priority, which deserves the support of members of the international community and partners. Minister Nagbe said with the huge unemployment among young people largely due to lack of formal education and vocational skills, it is imperative for the nation to be able to provide some technical skills for those unemployed for the job market, adding that Liberia’s future depends on it young people. Minister Nagbe speaking at the UNESCO 38th General Conference session on the Theme : Technical and Vocational Training(TVET) in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development said, with the huge illiteracy and unemployment rates in Liberia, a well-structured technical and vocational education that is aligned to addressing the current demand on the job market is more than desired and welcomed, reports the In Profile Daily.

DEA Nabs Drug Equipment – Nigerian Linked

The Drug Enforcement Agency of Liberia has disclosed the arrest of a sophisticated illicit drug equipment from a Nigerian national at the Freeport of Monrovia, as part of the DEA’s sustained clampdown on the fight against the use of harmful substances in Liberia. DEA Director Anthony Souh made the disclosure Wednesday at the agency’s head offices in Fiamah, Sinkor, displaying the items confiscated from the Nigerian national, when he reiterated the commitment of the agency to incessantly expose those involved in trading unwanted drugs in the country, In Profile Daily reports.

Over 50 Health Workers Undergo Leprosy Control Training in Zwedru

About 50 health workers mostly females drawn from public health centers and clinics across Grand Gedeh County, are undergoing training in leprosy treatment. Making the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency (LINA) Tuesday, a Senior Consultant and Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Krishnan, said the beneficiaries will be responsible to treat leprosy patients wherever they are found to avoid stigma and discrimination against them. Dr. Krishnan side the ministry in collaboration with partners will provide drugs where needed for instant treatment of patients in need, adding, “There is no need to build leprosy camps for patients as they can be treated anywhere they are found. According to him, the country has been divided into regions with emphasis being placed on Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Maryland and Grand Kru counties to enable health workers deal with leprosy just like any common disease using the skills they will acquire, theHeritage newspaper writes.

USAID Launches MCSP In Liberia

The Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Anthony Chan, has underscored the need to restore confidence in the national healthcare delivery system. Speaking at the launch of the Maternal and Child Survival Program Wednesday, at a local hotel in Monrovia Director Chan indicated that the program will prioritize maternal and child health and the overall restoration of health services. He indicated that the program will pursue two-pronged approach as it undertakes this task, noting that it will firstly roll out a nationwide set of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Training Protocol, the INFORMER writes.

Cemenco Gives to Talk Force

The Liberia Cement Corporation (CEMENCO) on Wednesday presented a check of half a million Liberian dollars to the Special Precedential Task Force for the beautification of Monrovia headed by the General Services Agency (GSA). presenting the check on behalf of his institution, the General Services Manager, James Doe Gibson said the Cement corporation has been following the project embarked upon by the President on the cleaning up of the city and surrounding communities which is being supervised by Madam Mary Broh, reports the INQUIRER news daily.
