 Fatal Robber Sparks Mob Attack On Zogos in Paynesville

Violent clashes erupted in the Pottery Market community of Red-light, Paynesville City on Sunday morning, August 4, 2019, when an angry mob of community residents, market sellers, and passersby set out to kill some street thugs (Zogos) for allegedly stabbing to death a man who was on his way to church. The deceased, later identified as John Flomo, is believed to be in his forties and is a resident of Johnsonville. The incident that led to the burning down of several criminal hideouts turned the main road that linked Pottery Market and Pipeline community into a warzone for several hours until the intervention of riot police. Moses Dolo, who claimed to have to be on the scene when the riot started said, a Zogo crept out of his hideout and rushed on John Flomo and snatched his phone, while the victim was trying to pay a commercial motorcyclist the Daily Observernewspaper writes.

LWSC Boss Frowns On IIIegal Water Connection

The Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Dounnah A. Kamara, has frowned on illegal water connection in the country.  Kamara made the statement in an interview with reporters when he toured several parts of Clara Town and Doe community, as a LWSC strategy of encouraging customers pay their bills regularly. He said regularly paying water bills allows the LWSC to pay its employees and bring on board contractors who have stayed at the corporation for over seven years without salary, and enables the company buy chemicals to improve the system. According to him, a team of LWSC’s staff and other officials are around the city of Monrovia, Sinkor belt, making sure LWSC collects its bills from customers. The LWSC boss used the occasion to urge Liberians to pay their water bill to enable LWSC to contribute toward the achievement of the Pro-Poo Agenda for the Prosperity and Development (PAPD). The Hot Pepper asserts.

MNG Gold Liberia And Worker’s Union Sign CBA

A collective bargaining agreement (CBA) has been signed between MNGGols Liberia and its workers union, which will help cement the cordial relationship between the company and the union, according to the government’s liaison, Eugene Kollie, and Public Relation Officer, Lloyd Nywah. The duo told the Hot Pepper that the agreement, which was signed in the district recently, will motivate the company to improve its services to the workers and residents of the mining region.  With the agreement, it is expected that there will be improvement in working’s salaries and housing allowance, and the provision of scholarship to residents of the area. The GCA will also discourage the idea of unlawful dismissal of workers by the company. According to Eugene and LIoyd, the signing ceremony was witnessed by the Ministry of Labor, national and local worker unions and district’s leadership.  One of the citizens of the mining region who spoke to the Hot Pepper’s reporter hailed the management of MNG Gold for the singing of the CBN.

Mercy Corps. MTN Launch Mobile Payment for PayGo Solar System

To enable customers meet their payment obligations for solar home systems, Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization and MTN Liberia have launched mobile money payment mechanism for such customers. The Pay as you go (PayGo) solar Mobile Money Payment, launched on Thursday, July 25, will give customers, particularly those in rural Liberia, the chance to pay for their solar energy systems (ranging from US$60 to $125) using a dedicated mobile money platform. PayGo enables households to buy quality solar systems and pay in installments instead of outright upfront payment. So far, partner private sector distributors have installed over 1,100 pay as you go systems, improving the lives of rural dwellers, particularly those with children of school-going age. The pay-as-you-go service will allow customers to easily and conveniently make monthly repayment amounts on a 30-day cycle. This initiative was made possible under the EU funded light Up Liberia program the Daily Observer newspaper implies.

Heightening Women Football Progress Female Lone Star off To Gambia For  Int’I friendlies

 In the wake of heightening momentum of woman’s football under the Mustapha Raji led-administration, a 30 member of Liberia Football Association (LFA) female under 20 delegation has departed the country for tow international friendlies in Banjul, The Gambia.  The trip is Liberia’s first women’s football international showpiece under the FA’s new regime as part of its ongoing improvement promise by President Raji prior to his ascendency as LFA boss. According to a dispatch from local football house, Liberia will play the Gambian under 20 national team on August 6 and 9 respectively the Inquirer newspaper writes.
