According to an Executive Mansion release, the Ambassador OVCHAROV presented his Letter of Credence on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Foreign Ministry Office in Monrovia.The Embassy of Ukraine in Dakar, Senegal conducts Ukraine’s engagements with Liberia, while Liberia is yet to be represented in Ukraine.

 

 

Receiving the Letters of Credence of the new Ambassador of Ukraine, President Sirleaf said the relationship between the Republic of Ukraine and the Republic of Liberia is relatively new, yet promising. She indicated how pleased she was for the first time to receive his Letter of Credence. She noted that the Government of Liberia was pleased to acknowledge the Ukrainian Peacekeeping Unit in UNMIL for its contribution in maintaining peace through surveillance and air patrols, transportation of personnel, and support to UNMIL. 

 

 

For his part, Ambassador Mr. Alexandre OVCHAROV said the Government of Ukraine highly appreciates the valuable support of the Republic of Liberia to the Ukrainian position and initiatives at the United Nations, especially support to the candidature of Ukraine at the elections for a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2016-2017 held in 2015 during 70th session of the UN General Assembly. 

 

 

He furthered, Ukraine is grateful to the pivotal role she continues to play in the world affairs as well as the leadership in the African region and West Africa sub-region adding, “I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that Ukraine firmly believes in the need for a comprehensive reform of global political and economic governance institutions, particularly   the expansion of the UN Security Council in both permanent and non-permanent  categories to effectively  respond to global challenges that reflect contemporary geo-political realities,” he noted. 

 

 

He commended President Sirleaf for the opportunity to present his Letter of Credence and assured President Sirleaf of his government’s commitment to working with the Liberian government in strengthening healthy and productive relationships. 

 

 

Ambassador OVCHAROV however, on behalf of His Excellency, Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine extended best wishes to President Sirleaf of Liberia.
